Advocacy efforts of Grumpy Taxpayer$

The CRD now offers two more ways residents can find information on the latest board decisions, priorities and outcomes, as a result of the advocacy efforts of Grumpy Taxpayer$.

The Board Highlights monthly e-newsletter sends a summary of key agenda items and CRD board decisions directly to your inbox, with links to related materials and webcasts for in-depth review.

“These new tools are a great way for residents to quickly and easily find more information about decisions made by the CRD Board,” said CRD Board Chair Colin Plant. “I encourage everyone to sign up for monthly Board Highlights e-newsletter in order to keep informed and stay connected with us.”

After board meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, Board Highlights will be sent out within a week.

Secondly, the Rise and Report section of the CRD website now publishes decisions made in-camera once they are ready for public release.

As well – at the urging of Grumpy Taxpayer$ – as part of its commitment to transparency the City of Victoria council has just created a one-stop website page called ‘Council Remuneration and Expenses.’

The dedicated page details council remuneration, expenses, dental, health and life insurance benefits through UBCM, and external boards and committees. It also provides links to reporting requirements in the Statement of Financial Information, and during the year as part of the Quarterly Accountability Report to Council. Members of Council submit annual financial disclosure statements by Jan. 15 to comply with the BC Financial Disclosure Act.
